Read MoreSuede shoes add a touch of elegance to any outfit, but their delicate nature requires gentle care. Washing suede shoes demands attention to detail and the right techniques to prevent damage and maintain their luxurious appearance. With the right approach, you can keep your suede shoes looking fresh and stylish for years to come. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of washing suede shoes, covering essential tips and tricks to help you achieve professional-looking results at home.
Please note while washing suede shoes, don’t soak your shoes in water as they can fade or color may bleed once dry and can become stiff as well. So, Here are steps that you can follow to get super clean mesh shoes at home.
Step 1: Use 30°C Warm Water
Begin by filling a small basin or bucket with warm water, ensuring the temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius. This temperature is ideal because it is warm enough to loosen dirt without damaging delicate materials like suede or soft fabrics
Step 2: Add Body Wash and White Vinegar
Add a few drops of gentle body wash to the warm water, this acts as a mild cleaner. Then, pour in a small amount of white vinegar. The vinegar helps break down grime and neutralizes odors without being too harsh on the shoes.
Step 3: Make a Foam Out of All Ingredients
Using your hand or a small whisk, mix the solution thoroughly to create a rich, bubbly foam. Focus on building foam rather than letting the mixture become overly watery, the foam will clean without soaking and damaging the shoes.
Step 4: Apply Foam and Scrub Gently
Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the foam (not the liquid) and gently apply it to the surface of the shoes. Scrub in small, circular motions, working gently to lift dirt and stains without harming the material. Wipe with a clean, damp cloth as you scrub to remove loosened dirt.
Step 5: Use a Soft Brush to Scrub the Insides
For the inside of the shoes, use a soft-bristled brush (like a toothbrush or a dedicated shoe brush). Dip it lightly into the foam and scrub the interior areas, focusing on spots where sweat or odor tends to build up. Be careful not to oversaturate the insides.
Step 6: Let It Dry Naturally
Once cleaning is complete, let the shoes air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight, using a heater, or blow-drying, as intense heat can cause suede to harden and lead to color fading. Natural drying will help maintain the shoe’s texture, shape, and color vibrancy.
1. Use a suede protector: Apply a suede protector spray to repel water and stains.
2. Avoid water exposure: Try to keep suede shoes dry, as water can damage the material.
3. Brush regularly: Use a suede brush to remove dirt and restore the nap (texture).
4. Use a suede cleaning block: For tough stains, use a suede cleaning block specifically designed for suede.
5. Avoid harsh chemicals: Never use regular shoe polish or harsh chemicals, as they can damage suede.
6. Dry naturally: If suede shoes get wet, let them air dry naturally, away from direct heat.
7. Use a suede conditioner: Apply a suede conditioner to keep the material soft and supple.
8. Store properly: Store suede shoes in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
9. Avoid rubbing stains: Gently blot stains instead of rubbing them, which can damage the suede.
10. Professional cleaning: For deep or stubborn stains, consider taking suede shoes to a professional cobbler or cleaner.
Caring for suede shoes requires gentle attention, but with the right steps and products, you can keep them looking their best. By using suede-specific cleaners, avoiding harsh chemicals and excess water, gently blotting stains, and regularly brushing and conditioning, you’ll maintain the texture and appearance of your shoes. With proper care, your suede shoes can remain stylish and durable for years.
