Read MoreShoelaces may seem like a small detail, but black stains on them can make your entire footwear look worn out and neglected. Whether from mud, grease, or daily wear, these stains can be stubborn and difficult to clean with just water. Fortunately, with the right techniques and a few common household items, you can easily get rid of those unsightly marks and restore your laces to their original condition. In this blog, we’ll walk you through a simple hack to clean black stains on shoelaces, so your shoes always look neat, fresh, and well-maintained from top to bottom.
Step 1: Take a clean bowl or container that’s large enough to submerge your shoelaces. Add about 1 tablespoon of toilet cleaner to the bowl.
Step 2: Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to the same bowl. Dish soap will help loosen dirt, grease, and oil stains.
Step 3: Add hot water in the bowl and leave it for 10 minutes.
Step 4: After 10 minutes, scrub them a little with your hands and you will see all the stains have gone.Since toilet cleaner is acidic, it effectively removes rust stains.
Safety Note: Toilet cleaner is a strong chemical. Wear gloves during this process and make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area
Shoelaces are exposed to constant friction, handling, and contact with dirty surfaces. Here are some common reasons they collect black stains:
Apart from the quick hack, here we also have a proper guide to clean the shoelaces of shoes.
Step 1: Remove the Laces from Your Shoes
It’s best to take the laces out of your shoes before cleaning. This allows for better access to the stained areas and prevents your shoes from getting wet or soapy.
Step 2: Shake Off Loose Dirt
Hold the shoelaces over a trash can or sink and gently shake or brush off any loose dirt or debris. This helps prevent mud and dirt from getting smeared during the wash.
Step 3: Pre-Treat the Black Stains
For black stains, a pre-treatment makes a big difference:
Method 1: Baking Soda and Vinegar Paste
Method 2: Dish Soap
Step 4: Soak the Shoelaces
Once pre-treated, soak the laces in a bowl of warm water mixed with a bit of detergent.
Here’s how:
Step 5: Scrub the Laces
After soaking, take the laces out and scrub them with a brush. Focus on the stained sections using gentle, circular motions. You can also dip the brush in the soapy water for more cleaning power.
If the stains are still visible, reapply the baking soda paste or detergent and scrub again.
Step 6: Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse the laces under cold or lukewarm running water. Make sure to wash out all soap and residue. Leaving detergent in the fabric may cause the laces to feel stiff or sticky once dry.
Step 7: Dry the Shoelaces
To dry your laces, Lay them flat on a clean towel and roll it up to remove excess water. Unroll and hang them to air dry completely. Avoid using a dryer, as the heat can cause shrinkage or damage certain materials.
So whenever you are getting ready for a function or occasion and at last you find your laces dirty, try this above-mentioned quick hack to get the sparkling cleaned shoelaces.
